Secret remedies to prevent colds and flu…

Science hasn’t found a cure for the common cold. So why is it that some people seem to spend their entire winter sick while others are rarely afflicted with the seasonal flu or even the common cold? Do they live in a bubble or were they blessed with a strong immune system? What do they know that 98% of the population doesn’t?

Preventing Colds and Flu

We’ve all heard the old saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” At no time was that adage more true than it is today. Our society is over-fed, over-drugged and under nourished. Strong immune systems are not the result of luck. They are created.  People with strong immune systems have several factors in common:

  • Healthy people are conscious of what they put in their bodies. A larger percentage of their diets are comprised of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes.  They drink in moderation and abstain from smoking or use of drugs, even over-the-counter medications.  They consume significantly less sugar than most people.
  • Healthy people are conscious of what they put on their bodies.  They use body care products that are free of harmful toxins or preservatives.  Health-conscious people use gloves when cleaning and choose non-toxic cleaners whenever possible.
  • Healthy people make sure their bodies get the proper amount and quality of sleep.  People generally require 8 hours of sleep in a dark room free from electronics.  Sleep quality improves when food and alcohol are not consumed within 2 hours of bedtime.  Many people, especially people over the age of 35, benefit from taking a melatonin supplement before bedtime to improve quality of sleep.
  • Healthy people practice stress management.  Whether it be yoga, regular exercise, meditation or conscious breathing, stress reduction techniques oxygenate the blood and reduce harmful hormone activity.
  • They are physically active.  Healthy people recognize the importance of a whole body approach in keeping the immune system vibrant and strong.
  • They take high quality nutritional supplements.  In addition to the benefits provided by a top-notch multi-vitamin, healthy people know about studies surrounding vitamin D and it’s effectiveness in preventing colds and flu.  They use high doses of vitamin C at the first sign of a cold.  They take supplements with powerful superfruit extracts like those found in Rejuvinex and Vinali.

Cheap Cold Remedies

Early detection is the key to preventing a cold. Listen to your body’s cues when you’re coming down with a bug. Does your throat feel tight prior to developing a sore throat? Do you feel tired before other symptoms develop? Learn your body’s unique signals and take immediate action. Here are some cheap cold remedies that should be implemented immediately upon suspicion of an oncoming illness:

Secret Cold Remedy #1 – Diet Strategies

1) Stop consuming sugar. This includes fruits with a high sugar content. Sugar wreaks havoc on the immune system.
2) Stop consuming grains and processed foods.
3) Eat a meal of salad or vegetables. Vegetables provide a pre-biotic which feeds probiotics, the healthy bacteria in the gut. This bacteria is your first line of defence in preventing illness.
4) Take a probiotic.  Probiotics support the immune system by competeing with invasive microorganisms.
5) Sprinkle your salad with herbs like oregano, basil and cilantro. These herbs are highly antimicrobial, but do not damage the body’s matrix of healthy bacteria.

Secret Cold Remedy #2 – Minimize Exposure to Environmental Toxins

1) Don’t use toxic laundry detergents or use toxic cleaning products of any kind.
2) Stay clear of areas with second hand smoke or heavy pollution.
3) Take a walk in the woods. A study in Japan showed a 50% increase in killer cells after test subjects took a walk in the woods.

Secret Cold Remedy #3 – Nutritional Supplements

1) Take ARIIX’s Vinali. Vinali contains a synergistic combination of Vitamin C and grape seed extract. Vitamin C, the “do-everything” nutrient, is a powerful antioxidant. It is essential for the formation, growth, and repair of bone, skin, and connective tissue. Because the body is not able to produce or store vitamin C, it must continually be replenished through diet. Grape seed extract has the ability to help the body fight viruses, allergens, and carcinogens. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-cancerous and anti-microbial activity, so it offers tremendous support in warding off nearly all types of illness. The benefits of vitamin C and grape seed extract are compounded when presented together in a single supplement.
2) Take a highly Potent Antioxidants like ARIIX Optimal vitamin and mineral supplements.
3) Vitamin D – A study published in 2010 showed that children taking a low dose of Vitamin D3 were 42% less likely to come down with the seasonal flu.

Cold Remedies that Cure the Common Cold

Science may not have announced a cure for the common cold. But many individuals have been able to stave off a cold or even the season flu by identifying symptoms early, then treating immediately. A virus is most vulnerable when it first encounters your immune system. By giving your immune system a rapid burst of energy, you can give your body the edge it needs to overpower the invaders. There are several “treatments” that have been proven effective in waging war on infection:

Oregano Oil As a Cold Remedy
There are several plant extracts that are used as cold remedies. In sorting through the data, oregano oil is the most effective in killing a broad spectrum of invasive microorganisms while leaving your bodies’ beneficial bacterial support system in tact.  Oregano oil with a high concentration of  carvacrol is the most beneficial. Carvacrol is the most active antimicrobial agent in oregano oil.

When choosing oregano oil as a cold remedy, make sure the oil was extracted using a cold press process as heat damages carvacrol.  Several cheaper health food store brands use alchohol to extract the oil from the leaf. This impacts the efficacy and potency of the oregano oil as well.

When using oregano oil as a cold remedy, you can apply the oil directly to the feet. When using anywhere else on the body, it must be diluted with a “carrier” oil. A teaspoon of any vegetable oil, including olive oil, can be used with 3-4 drops of pure, concentrated oregano oil. The blend can be massaged around the neck and ear area to eliminate an ear infection, on the chest for pulmonary infection or even swallowed to relieve a sore throat.

Wash your hands with soap and water after using oregano oil as it can burn your eyes and nose.

Propolis as a Cold Remedy Propolis is bee resin and one of the most broad-spectrum antimicrobial compounds in the world; propolis is also the richest source of caffeic acid and apigenin, two very important compounds that aid in immune response.

Zinc as a Cold Remedy Zinc supplements have been shown to reduce the severity and duration of the common cold.  The optimal level is around 50mg.  Zinc should be taken at the first sign of a cold and should not be taken for more than a week.  Prolonged zinc consumption can lead to a copper imbalance in the body.

Vitamin D as a Cold Remedy
Vitamin D not only prevents colds and flu, it is an amazingly effective at curing them.  Vitamin D is an antimicrobial agent, producing 200 to 300 different antimicrobial peptides in your body that kill bacteria, viruses and fungi.
